Blog Action Day: What Tiny Choices has taught us
By tinychoices | October 15, 2007
When we started Tiny Choices less than three short months ago, we wanted to create a forum where we could consider the tiny choices we make in the world, and how they impact the environment. One might say how MUCH they impact the environment, because as we’ve all seen, it’s nearly impossible to do anything that is totally zero impact.
What we didn’t expect was to meet all of you, and to build such a brilliant community of respectful and thoughtful people who are genuinely concerned about how we impact the environment every single day. From day one, y’all were there with your insight and input, questions, wonderings, ponderings and opinions. And it’s this enthusiasm which has made Tiny Choices more meaningful and inspiring than we ever could have predicted.
Today for Blog Action Day, we’re supposed to post about something that relates to the environment. Because this blog is all about the environment, we thought it would be fun to share some lessons learned over the last few months.
- Who knew there were so many cloth napkin devotees? This tiny choice has tremendous ecological effects, and is a fun way to make a visible environmental statement.
- Y’all implement tiny choices that others might find a bit extreme…but we don’t let the naysayers get us down.
- Organic tampons are a hot-button issue…
- As are reusable water bottles…
- And the issue of how veganism impacts the environment.
- You all eat some good food and aren’t afraid to write letters!
- We round up some Easy Peasy Tips…
- And spotlight tiny choosers with our survey!
Check the Blog Action Day Action Blog over the next few days to see how many people have mentioned the concept in their blogs! There are thousands of blogs involved, and it should be just as exciting to see how many people chose to blog about the environment today, as it was to find out how many people wanted to read about and share their own tiny choices here. Blog Action Day will be be compiling some graphical displays early this week so we can try to wrap our heads around the bloggy-momentum environmentalism will see today.
