A Better Vocabulary and Free Rice!
By Jenn (TinyChoices.com) | October 29, 2007
Green as a Thistle posted about the highly addictive word game Free Rice: “FreeRice has two goals: 1. Provide English vocabulary to everyone for free; 2. Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.” I do wonder if world hunger can be ended just by giving out rice for free (seems like there might be a little more to it than that?), but while the bigger scope is being tackled, free rice for hungry people is a beyond noble cause.
This game has reignited my love of vocabulary. The first time I played Free Rice, I got up to a vocabulary level of 42 (out of 50), and donated 2010 grains of rice:
Free Rice was launched on October 10th of this year, and has since donated 330,228,600 grains of rice.
Play Free Rice, and post your scores in the comments below!

My brother forwarded me a link to Free Rice last week, and I’ve played a few times (maybe 4000-5000 grains of rice total?). I’m hovering around level 47. It’s a good-but-not-brainless break from work.
This is a much better way to waste time at work than reading all manner of celebrity gossip blogs. So far I’ve made it to level 41.
fun! i was also hovering around 40-41.
I never thought all of those historical romance novels would pay off. a lot of those words were straight out of those awful books!
