DIY: Eco-Dumbbells From Old CDs
By Jenn | August 14, 2008
Now this is totally amazing– using 150 old CDs plus some basic hardware, you can make a 10-pound dumbbell. This is a super way to reuse CDs which were heading towards the recycling bin, and avoid buying a new set of dumbbells (which eliminates waste/pollution from mining, shipping, and forging the metal, and shipping the finished product).
If you don’t happen to have 150 used CDs laying around, post a note on Freecycle or within the free section of your local Craigslist, and I’m willing to bet you’ll find someone who will bless you for taking their “trash” off their hands.
I don’t necessarily love the look of CD decor, but this is just a smart case of repurposing items which already exist in order to avoid the production of new items (which very well might up sitting at the bottom of your my closet and gathering dust). Plus, cheap!
