Tiny Choices Survey: Gracia!

By tinychoices | August 29, 2008

graciaf1.jpgVital statistics (name, age, location, link to website/blog)?

My name is Gràcia, I’m 24 and live in Castelló, Spain.

How do you reside (apartment or house, roommates)?

I live with my boyfriend in a 670 sq ft rental apartment. We have a blog about how it is to move in together, etc. http://squeeeeeze.100webspace.net/

Are your housing decisions dictated by choice or necessity? Please explain.

Well, by necessity, but I love my apartment. I’d rather own a house with a little garden, but this apartment is amazing, has great insulation, amazing light, and I love it.

How do you travel (transit, car, etc)? Are your travel decisions dictated by choice or necessity? Please explain.

By car. I work 15 miles from home, and there’s no public transport to get there. Also, my workmates live far from here, so no carpooling :(

Tell us about a Tiny Choice you’ve made in your life.

I started using a Mooncup. I still don’t put it right 90% of the time, but I’m sticking with it. And we don’t turn on the AC until it’s over 90F INSIDE.

What is the one environmental dilemma you personally struggle the most with?

Plastic bags. It’s really hard to find reusable bags here in Spain.

What is one Tiny Choice you can make in that direction?

Start using the bags I brought back from our last trip to Germany.

What is the one environmental Tiny Choice you make that people question (in either a positive educational or a negative hassle way) you the most about?

I guess people don’t feel very comfortable about my mooncup or my obsession with reusing paper at work.

What is the one environmental Tiny Choice you would like every single person to adopt?

Buy less. That’s it. That’d mean so much lower levels of pollution because of transport, production, etc. But also less malls, people driving there, etc.

Do you feel like you make sacrifices for environmentalism? Please explain.

No, and I think I should push myself a little harder. Actually, I wrote a blog post about the choices we’re already making and the ones we should adopt.

Are you generally: optimistic, pessimistic, neutral about environmentalism and the future?

I’m always optimistic about everything, and I try to see big gestures in small things, like when I see somebody rejecting a plastic bag at a supermarket I think “maybe people are starting to be more concious” instead of getting grumpy about all the other wasted bags around me.

Hi Gracia, I like your blog… I’ve been living with my boyfriend for almost a year now and we’re still making decisions about the ways in which we should live. I love your long list about things you are doing to be “greener”–and the things you could be doing! Sometimes my boyfriend thinks I’m a little excessive with all the changes I try to make (I went a kinda crazy on him when he told me he used the Swiffer to clean the other day… disposable! no-o-o-o!), so I’m glad I’m not the only one, and it’s good you seem to be making these choices together.

PS: my coworkers also get annoyed with me for trying to reuse paper all the time… or at least recycle it, which i still have to hassle them to do sometimes (even though we all have little bins by our desks).

Hi, Brandy, I’m glad you liked my blog. I just started another one, http://www.wetakeiteasy.com, a little less personal and with more information. Check it out if you like!
