Tiny Choices Survey: Meredith!
By tinychoices | November 21, 2008
Vital statistics (name, age, location, link to website/blog)?
Meredith; 29 and holding; Wynantskill, NY
How do you reside (apartment or house, roommates)?
My boyfriend, Dan, and I just purchased our very first home and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Are your housing decisions dictated by choice or necessity? Please explain.
I would say that it is both a choice and a necessity. We needed to get out on our own and had an apartment for about a year and a half and decided it was time to purchase. It is a bit more expensive but it is a great feeling of doing it on your own.
How do you travel (transit, car, etc)? Are your travel decisions dictated by choice or necessity? Please explain.
I have a 2008 Honda Accord and Dan has a 2002 Chevy Blazer.
Tell us about a Tiny Choice you’ve made in your life.
Dan travels approximately one hour a day for work so he will switch to my car to use less gas and since I only live 3 miles away from work I don’t mind using the Blazer. I once looked into public transit but it would take over 1 hour to get to my job that is only 3 miles away! It just isn’t convenient.
What is the one environmental dilemma you personally struggle the most with?
My favorite Tiny Choice is that I 1. now recycle anything that can be recycled and 2. I try to remember my cloth bags to go grocery shopping with (those plastic ones are just too much – both for the tiny house and for the environment.)
What is one Tiny Choice you can make in that direction?
I would love to be less dependent on a car. I don’t get terrible gas mileage or anything like that but it would just be better.
We are going to look into getting me a Scooter or Vespa of some sort for the warmer months.
What is the one environmental Tiny Choice you make that people question (in either a positive educational or a negative hassle way) you the most about?
People at work always laugh at me when I am at the sink cleaning out my soup can because I bring them home and we don’t have recycling at work. I also get laughed at all the time at work because I comment on how much paper we use in such a high tech world!
What is the one environmental Tiny Choice you would like every single person to adopt?
At the very least I think everyone should recycle and try not to get and use those pesky plastic bags.
Do you feel like you make sacrifices for environmentalism? Please explain.
I don’t feel that I make sacrifices for the environment with the “little” things I do (recycle; no plastic bags, using the same water bottle over and over etc). I would like to sacrifice more then I do.
Are you generally: optimistic, pessimistic, neutral about environmentalism and the future?
Most of the time I am an optimist and say that by me doing (fill in the blank) I am helping the environment but other days I am pessimistic just because I don’t see enough being done for it. I personally would like to breath and have blue sky when I am in my 70′s and 80′s!
