Holiday Recycling
By Karina | December 24, 2008
It’s that time of year again, and a couple of holiday recycling tips have come by lately that I think are especially timely.
- I’ve been collecting corks for a while now - at least since last year, when I learned about the cork recycling opportunities here, and found out about some of the repurposing opportunities for corks here. Well, it turns out that there are other organizations that recycle corks, and here’s one more: Korks 4 Kids collects corks from the individual, industry and (most excitingly!) from dining establishments and uses the funds raised to support autism research.
- And if you’ve gone ahead after our post last year and bought LED holiday lights this year, or if you’ve just given up entirely on that ball of lights that is just too awful and tangled, don’t forget to recycle your strings of old incandescent bulbs! You can send them to HolidayLEDs, and they’ll not only recycle them (incandescent bulbs have lots of heavy metals and other bad stuff in them) but will also send you a coupon for 15% off anything at their site - which is substantial, because there is a huge markup for LED bulbs when compared to traditional christmas lights. If you’ve been eying LED lights but haven’t been able to commit, this might be the bump you need to get started. [[via the ever-super GreenLAGirl.]]
Hope your holidays are going swimmingly!
