Green Mom’s Carnival: Green Spring Cleaning
By Jenn | March 10, 2009

Team Tiny Choices is proud to host the March 2009 edition of the Green Moms Carnival: Green Spring Cleaning!
Though the bloggers are united on the subject of green cleaning, their takes on the matter vary wildly– and make for fascinating and insightful reading. Thusly we present to you (in the order of submissions received) the collective works:
- Beth at Fake Plastic Fish tells us about her experiences with two green home cleaning services, and about the Kid-Safe Chemical Act being proposed by the Environmental Working Group.
- Karen over at Best Wellness Consultant shares her memories of growing up with a serious spring cleaner, and how we can do it in a less toxic way.
- Michelle of The Blogging Bookworm offers her review of the book, “Green Housekeeping” by Ellen Sandbeck.
- Analiese of Recycle Raccon discusses how to reduce and recycle toxic substances, and offers recipes for tried-and-true cleaners. Also, a presentation on how to share non-toxic cleaning with friends!
- Beth of Smart Family Tips shares her thoughts on Clutter (reducing and reusing) & Cleaning (using safer products & going waste-free).
- Janelle from Healthy Child Healthy World shares her 5 Ways to Clean Up Your Car for a Healthier Ride.

I can sense my dust bunnies trembling in fear. Beware dirt and grime, you are about to be greenly - dispatched!! (I’m really struggling to make cleaning fun…at least if I make it more dramatic with silly voices and all - the kids might find it entertaining and help out). Thanks Jenn!
I am inspiring green mamas to live more simply over at my blog every day until march 21st- Win free gifts! I will be recycling and inspiring other moms to live green at the same time! Many of the challenges are small steps to living more simply and recycling the junk http://authenticmama.com/?p=95
Here is the description:
Spring is a traditional time for ’spring cleaning’ in the US. Why not live this way year round? Living completely sustainably and simply may seem somewhat of a challenge. Don’t worry, you don’t need to set up a chicken coup ~today~ you can accomplish simple sustainable living in baby steps.
This is why I am starting this challenge! I am a self confessed book addict! I have books I have not used in months that others could benefit from. I will be giving my books away during this challenge (and there are some great ones)! Since I started this on a complete whim- this first challenge will go through midnight March 5th (tomorrow)- from there it will be a daily giveaway! This is my first blog giveaway so I can’t promise it will go perfectly (but who needs to be perfect right!!) Just leave an inspiring comment of over 50 words about your plans to complete the challenge or your results from doing so. The ‘challenge’ will be simple steps you can do right now to simplify your life- I encourage you to really participate! Hopefully your reward will be getting one step closer to fulfillment!
Once the houseguests are gone, I’ll read through this and get motivated all over again. Thanks Jenn!
Thanks so much for this awesome list!!

Jenn, thanks so much for putting this all together. Wow, I really hate to clean but even I am inspired after reading just some of these posts! Can’t wait to get through them all! Maybe we need a cleaning carnival every week or two to keep me motivated! (Just joking!) Thanks again - Lynn
Hey, this is a GREAT list. I’m kind of inspired to actually DO some cleaning! And I love all the alternatives and suggestions people have. Beth Greer, a Super Natural Mom, has all kinds of great tips in a fabulous book, “Super Natural Home.” The sub-title says it all: “Improve your Heatlh, Home and Planet … One Room at a Time.” What I like about it is that she lays out various problems and potential toxic hot zones and then gives really practical advice on how to address the situation. (I like solutions, what can I say?) It’s a great help in greening up the home.
Jenn - thank you ever so much for hosting this month’s carnival. What an impressive group “we” all are!!
