Tiny Choices Giveaway: Soap Nuts!
By tinychoices | March 12, 2009
Based on the incredibly enthusiastic reader response to our soap nuts review, Lisa over at LaundryTree.com has donated 10 sample bags of soapnuts for 10 lucky readers! (the sample bags are the little cotton drawstring pouches in the photo).
LaundryTree Soapnut Sample – 20 grams
If you’ve never tried soapnuts before, this sample-sized bag is a perfect way to give them a spin. It contains 8 soapnuts — which doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s enough to wash between six and eight loads of laundry! We think that’s plenty of time for you to fall in love with this amazing, totally natural product!
To enter, we’re going to play a word-association game: please leave a comment below telling us the first word which comes to mind when you hear the word “laundry.” 10 winners will be chosen at random on Thursday, March 19th 2009, and all winners must have a U.S. mailing address.
Good luck, Tiny Choosers!

Quarters.
As in, I need to scrape together enough quarters so I can wash my filthy cotton flannel hankies. :)
I don’t need to enter the soapnuts sweepstake, though. I ordered up a bag after your last post, and so far I’m really enjoying them! I made up a batch of the liquid wash, since we wash cold, and they’re doing a great job. And I’ve made a spray bottle of all-purpose cleanser for the kitchen and bath too!
basket.
I would love to try these!
First word : Ugh
Second Word :Cat
My cat recently climbed into my washer, and needed help getting out. It isnt left open anymore.
Clean!
I absolutely love the smell of clean, wet wash. Mm. Happy.
Looking forward to trying out these soap nut doohickies! I’ve used an earth-friendly powdered detergent for quite a while now, but I’m always interested in trying new things that make chores simple as well as take care of the planet.
delicious.
I really can’t wait to try these soap nuts!
Chore.
It’s a never ending task!
My association is:
Laundry = Horror
I wear my clothes until they need to be washed, i.e. they smell, and then I amass a huge pile of things that need to be washed, and then I lug my granny cart over to the laundromat, and thank goodness for multiple load machines!
Laundry –> fresh start
Clean laundry is a fresh start for my (limited) wardrobe to cycle through!
football!
first word was clean. second word was piles.
i would love to try these! sounds like they might be perfect for my allergy-prone husband.
laundry=sunshine=line dried clothes
Wash.
Not very original, I know. I’ve been curious about soap nuts for a while, so thanks for the chance to try some out!
Clean…..more like the smell of freshly clean clothes.
I’m so interested in trying these, although I don’t know what my husband would say, heh.
room.
as in the Laundry room in my house
vinegar! we started using vinegar in the rinse water (instead of commercial fabric softener) several months ago, and it’s been great. the clothes seem cleaner, and we’re saving lots of money by not buying extra softener.
i am curious to try those soap nuts!
diapers! As in cloth! That’s the funnest laundry I do these days.
Weekly.
I’d love to try these Soap Nuts.
Chris
My word: @$#*&!!!!!!
Yeah, I’m not a real fan of doing laundry. But, I have been wanting to try Soapnuts for awhile now. Maybe they’d be useful for washing the profanity out of my laundry day vocabulary as well!!
basket
I have been looking at the soapnuts for a while, it would be nice to have a sample to try.
Husband.
My husband does most of the laundry! :)
Winning a sample would be great, I’ve been thinking of trying these.
Time
Quarters! As in I need to go to the bank and get more in order to do my laundry!
Cotton!
I’m planning to buy a few of these to try when my current laundry soap runs out but I’d love to get a free sample. Thanks for hosting this sweepstakes! :)
White
Hmm… wonder what that says about me. o.o
Commercials.
I throw a load in the dryer during a commercial (to get the wrinkles out), then run back during the next commercial to hang them up on my various cobbled-together ‘clotheslines’ in the basement.

Can you tell us about the packaging? Are those plastic bags? The only reason I haven’t tried soap nuts yet is that I can’t find them without plastic. If those bags are not plastic, please let me know!
Hey Beth! The current packaging is plastic, but they’re developing a new non-plastic alternative, coming soon… you will be hearing more about this very soon, if you haven’t already!
Jenn
Sheets (I don’t know why since we only wash our sheets once a month)
Neverending!
Folding!
And yes, “constant” and “neverending” were close seconds.
basket — one of my cat’s favorite things :)
Clean!
I’ve really been wanting to try these.
Pain!
Actually, folding afterwards is the least fun for me. I can’t wait to try these things out!
disaster.
As in, our bedroom looks like a tornado passed through… clothes on every surface at all times. do we have carpet or hard wood? Read about the soap nuts a few months ago and am very interested!
Soiled.
I can’t believe my brain is that warped! I wish it would have been something a little more pleasant :)
Line.
As in, the new clothesline I just put up. It’s retractable! It’s right outside the back door! And it has restored, for me, the happiness of hanging clothes out to dry.
basement!
I’d love to try these–thanks for the giveaway!
endless.
Pile.
GIANT HUGE MONSTER PILE.
How a household of three goes through so much laundry, I will never understand.
Folding
I have been wanting to try these out, but have been working through the case of Seventh Generation before moving on it. This may do teh trick.
Stinky Socks
I would love to try this magic nuts to find out if they can make disappear those bad scents and replace all those chemicals invented for it. It will be simply natural.
Day.
breeze.
oooh, I’m dying to try these!
…mat
Tuesday.
Tuesday is the day that I get to use my in-law’s washer and dryer.
extravaganza
(as in never-ending work extravaganza)
fresh
(like the commercials)
Softener.
Sunny!
The first thing I think about is how nice it will be to hang out my clothes in the sun on the patio. This is so cool, I’ve heard about soap nuts but never actually seen any. Good luck everyone! :)
dirty.
there is always dirty laundry no matter how much I wash!!
DETERGENT!
How sad is that?? We’ve struggled for years with allergies to chemicals and perfumes in our family’s detergents and it sounds like soapnuts could be a great alternative! Hopefully this’ll give us a great excuse to try them…
…procrastinate… because it can wait one more day, right?
Folding!
I have heard so much about these soapnuts! Thanks for offering this chance!
broken…as in my washer right now, boo.
Um, well, the first word that I thought of was “balls” and that could either relate to those PVC laundry balls that I bought thinking they would cut down on disposable dryer sheets until I realized that heating PVC is a BAD idea and I don’t need dryer sheets anyway. Or it could relate to the years I worked for a Brit and tend to say “balls” as a curse for things I don’t like or don’t want to do. Or maybe because “balls” and “nuts” are euphemisms for male reproductive organs. I don’t know, but isn’t that why word association is fun?
Anyway, I would love to try the soap nuts :-)
sister
as in, i’m lucky enough to have a sister that lives downstairs (near the laundry room) that does the majority of the laundry for the house. how sweet if i could give her a bag of those soap nuts to try!! ;)
Fragrant — I love the smell of freshly washed and dried clothes. Especially line dried.
Bamboo
I made a clothes drying rack out of bamboo, so I think about bamboo when I hear laundry. Beats clothes lines any day because they don’t sag. And I got the bamboo from Freecycle! You have no idea how many emails you get when you ask for bamboo on Freecycle….
