How do you reside (apartment or house, roommates)?

Single family home with 3 kids and my best buddy (ex-husband, it’s true!)

Are your housing decisions dictated by choice or necessity? Please explain.

Necessity! We needed space and moved from a rented condo to a rented house with yards. I will never go back to apartment living because I enjoy piddling around the yards, pulling weeds, planting gardens (to attract local wildlife, and we’ll try a food garden again), and there’s safe room for the kids to play. It’s an older house and if we could buy it I would do so many “green” things to it!! For now we are energy conscious and appreciate the shade trees and sky lights.

How do you travel (transit, car, etc)? Are your travel decisions dictated by choice or necessity? Please explain.

Our town is so easy to walk around, it’s great! I plan my car trips and do many things per trip, and actually enjoy taking my older son and his buddies where they need to go when they need a ride. When the weather’s good we walk to and from school.

Tell us about a Tiny Choice you’ve made in your life.

Buy and sell used! I am a fanatic about it and have become a conduit through which others often get/get rid of items.

What is the one environmental dilemma you personally struggle the most with?

My daughter and I just did Eve Ensler’s play (The V.M.) and within the play saw a film on the Congo and how the world is spoiling the area for ingredients to our electronics. I LOVE my computer and find the cell phone a great way to keep in touch with my older son (and for emergencies) but feel bad about how these pieces come together.

What is one Tiny Choice you can make in that direction?

I can support any mfr company going green, the recycling of such pieces and maintain what I own to keep it working longer. Ooops, that’s more than one ;-)

What is the one environmental Tiny Choice you make that people question (in either a positive educational or a negative hassle way) you the most about?

Having so much of what I own being pre-owned/used/free.

What is the one environmental Tiny Choice you would like every single person to adopt?

Stop getting the latest and get simple!

Do you feel like you make sacrifices for environmentalism? Please explain.

No, I am very comfortable having a big recycle bin and small garbage bin, mis-matched furniture, picking items off the corners with “free” signs on them, confronting entities with “why don’t you….???”, etc!

Are you generally: optimistic, pessimistic, neutral about environmentalism and the future?

I am optimistic. It’s great that most people are catching up to how I was raised and that our new president has a forward attitude. It’s a little sad, though, that this “green movement” wasn’t picked up long ago. In fact, I don’t like the term itself. Just be sensible!
