Easy Peasy Tip: Send e-Cards!
By tinychoices | June 27, 2009
Next time you’ve got an occasion to celebrate, mark the event by sending out e-cards instead of paper-based ones.
You can choose a more traditional service such as Hallmark.com, Blue Mountain, or go the eco-route: The Nature Conservancy offers eCards highlighting user-submitted nature photos, and Care2.com makes a donation to save a square foot of rainforest with every eCard sent. There’s also SomeeCards.com, offering a snarky twist on the eCard genre.
For super-special occasions, you (or a graphic designer) can create a unique and beautiful electronic image marking the occassion– sent via email, it creates zero waste!

Great idea. It also lets you have a little variety. Is it someone special’s B-Day? Why send one car when you can send one card every hour?
If a paper card has to do the trick, I’ve had a lot of fun ‘recycling’ them. When you get a B-Day card from a friend or sibling, send it back to them on their B-Day. You not only reduce waste, but you can start an instant and fun tradition!
I really like sending personalized greeting cards to my friends too. I agree with the above comment that if you have to use paper greetings they recycle them! Thats one of the good things about ecards, as no paper is needed you are helping the environment, and as long as you choose a free site like I always so, you are saving money too.
OMG - you mentioned Someecards! That’s my go to site for not just the regular special occasions (like birthdays) but for other such occasions as celebrity deaths and weeping senators with lovers from other countries! Thanks to them, I know about Canada Day.
Yes there are loads of ecard sites around, and they seem to becoming more popular.
