Don’t Miss It!

Here’s a couple of news items for your Friday perusal!
- The Greenists report that Home Depot has got a great incentive to recycle your traditional incandescent holiday light strands and replace them with LED strands. Apparently (to quote The Greenists) “From now through Sunday, if you take up to five new or used strands of incandescent Christmas lights to the Home Depot (yes, there’s no denying that the Christmas retail season is upon us), you can get $3 off the purchase of a strand of LED lights.” It’s not a huge rebate, but if you were planning on getting new light strands anyway, it’s like free money! We wrote about holiday lights here, if you want more background - and kudos to Home Depot for continuing the greenery that they started by taking CFLs in stores back for recycling!
- We received a heads up that says: “The North Brooklyn Compost Project is taking part in NYCLeaves: Project Leaf Drop - a great effort to collect leaves from residential properties and turn them into valuable mulch. For the next three Saturdays, we are going to be accepting leaf donations from your yards and raking up leaves in McCarren Park.” The leaves (no twigs!) must be bagged and dropped off at the compost site at McCarren Park at North 12th and Driggs on Saturdays this month (11/7, 11/14 and 11/21) between the hours of 11 am and 1 pm. They also need volunteers - email northbrooklyncompost@gmail.com if you’d like to help out, and check out northbrooklyncompost@gmail.com if you’d like to help out, and check out http://nycleaves.org/bkdecay/ for more information about this and other nearby locations.
