Easy Peasy Tip: Have a Constitutional!

By tinychoices | March 20, 2010

constitutional.jpgIt used to be that people would sit out on the porch or go for an evening constitutional – that is, take a moment to stroll around the neighborhood, greet friends and neighbors on THEIR porches, and settle stomachs after dinner and before bedtime.

As the seasons change this weekend (either from winter to spring or from hot summer to fall – depending on your hemisphere!) now is the perfect time to start a new habit of gathering up your favorite people (family, beloveds, and friends) and having a little walk with them. Look at the houses, listen to the nature sounds, and try out different routes. If you are able to do this at the same time every day you will notice the rhythm of your neighborhood, and who knows: you may find another person to nod to or befriend who is doing the same thing! Start a new tradition and build some community! (and of course if you can build in a trip to your local ice cream parlor it’s all for the better!)

I wish we lived close enough that we could constitutional together.

Thanks to my dog I have to go on constitutionals whether I like it or not! And yes, it makes me aware of everything that is happening in the neighborhood.

I love constitutionals! This time of year, when the weather is neither too hot nor too cold, I try to take a constitutional to one of the many local coffee shops that are within a mile or two of my house.

One day last spring, I took a super constitutional to the other end of the French Quarter, hopped on the streetcar and then walked around the Garden District for a while. It was great!

I love evening walks as well! My spouse calls them passa giata. Such a better option than starting a night by watching TV.
