Easy Peasy Tip: Learn Where It Goes

By tinychoices | September 4, 2010

recyclingtruck.jpgSo you’ve put your recyclables into the blue bin and bundled your cardboard up with twine; good job!  Now, do you know where these materials go when they’ve been picked up by your municipality or after you’ve dropped them off at your local collection center?

Try to sleuth out what happens once recyclables have left your hands.  Is your plastic being sent to a local point and melted down there, or is it being shipped over to Asia and dumped on poorer populations?  Is your paper recycled locally or shipped to China?

While this tip might not be as Easy Peasy as others, it’s encouraging you to take a more active role in the waste recovery process– being aware of our trash lifecycle can help us modify and tiny choose our future behaviors!
