Tiny Choices Survey: Gabriel!

By tinychoices | September 25, 2009

Vital statistics (name, age, location, link to website/blog)?
Gabriel Loh, 33, Seattle and Atlanta

How do you reside (apartment or house, roommates)?
House. My only roommates are the family! Sue and Violet.

Are your housing decisions dictated by choice or necessity? Please explain.
Choice… not sure what you want explained. I can choose where to rent or buy.

How do you travel (transit, car, etc)? Are your travel decisions dictated by choice or necessity? Please explain.
Car. Choice/convenience. Too far to walk; too hilly to bike. No convenient mass transit for the route.

Tell us about a Tiny Choice you’ve made in your life.
Trying to cut down on beef consumption, trying to buy local or at least domestically, joined a CSA.

What is the one environmental dilemma you personally struggle the most with?
Haven’t been losing sleep over anything.
What is one Tiny Choice you can make in that direction?
n/a
What is the one environmental Tiny Choice you make that people question (in either a positive educational or a negative hassle way) you the most about?
n/a
What is the one environmental Tiny Choice you would like every single person to adopt?
For the people at work to just bring in their own mugs and stop using so many paper cups. That’s just silly.
Do you feel like you make sacrifices for environmentalism? Please explain.
Not really. I would like to eat more beef, but it’s not that big of a deal. Wouldn’t really rank it as a full sacrifice since I still occasionally eat it.

Are you generally: optimistic, pessimistic, neutral about environmentalism and the future?
The planet will take care of itself just fine. Mankind, on the other hand, I’m far less optimistic about. I’m pretty pessimistic as most of the planet is pretty unregulated when it comes to environmental impact. For example, if China (which accounts for about 1/6th of the planet’s people) completely disregards all environmental issues, then the rest of the planet can be perfectly responsible and we’d still be screwed… it only takes one person to pee in the pool to make it gross, and it’d completely disgusting if 1 in 6 people peed in the pool. Of course not everyone is China is metaphorically peeing in the pool, but not everyone else is holding it in, too.
