Accidental insulation report

By Karina | October 31, 2011

Y’all may remember how we had new insulation put in last year. We also has our front door replaced with a nice version that seals all the way around AND has a storm door on it.

And today I’m here to say BOY HOWDY but we are happy we did that. We had an early snow storm yesterday and at our house we had about 8″ of heavy snow falling on trees which hadn’t shed their leaves yet - and we lost power at 6PM on Saturday and haven’t had it back yet. So, that means no heat, and we have been wandering around the house in hats and hoodies and insulated vests, drinking scads of warm tea and hot cocoa.

I’m super happy to report that even though the outside temperatures are flirting with freezing, we are fairly comfortable inside with temperatures at 57 during the day and 53 when we wake up. That’s doable!

The fixing our drafty front door makes the hugest difference. We still have some drafts under the windowsills to fix, but it’s clear that we are starting this cold season in a much better place than last year!

If there was one thing about your home you could make more efficient, what would it be?

Hands down it would be me! Seriously, I think it’s appliances that run all the time, or at least a lot.

Hope you all get power back soon!
