Easy Peasy Tip: Eat your Pantry!

pantry.jpgAre you on an organizational blitz? are you sorting and discarding and donating and using what you have? Take this chance to sort through your pantry and eat through the weird stuff that clutters the corners. Bolster your meals of marinated mushrooms or stuffed grape leaves with fresh ingredients! Make it into a game, and see how far you can go without a significant shopping trip to the grocery store! An added benefit (besides revisiting all of the interesting food you’ve stashed) is making room for food you may be preserving yourself this year.

I recently did a challenge where I tried to eat one thing hidden in my pantry every week for a month - my favourite resource was Love Food, Hate Waste from the UK. Lots of handy tips and recipes there…

My family and I went the whole month of November without buying anything besides perishable food. It turns out we had tons of food hiding in our cabinets! It was exciting to see how long we could go without spending any money, beyond what we needed for fresh food, and we came up with all kinds of ways to make our canned and boxed meals more healthy. As an added benefit we created more space on our shelves for kitcheny things to live.
