Tiny Choices Survey: Courtney!
By Jenn (TinyChoices.com) | April 30, 2010
Vital statistics (name, age, location, link to website/blog)?
Courtney, 26, Eugene OR http://www.courtneylikestocook.com
How do you reside (apartment or house, roommates)?
Duplex
Are your housing decisions dictated by choice or necessity? Please explain.
Both. Right now my fiance and I are in a bit of a transition period because we both have new jobs about 45 miles north of here. Our plan is to move and we are hoping to find a duplex or small house with a yard. I love to garden and grow my own food. We are also hoping to find a place close to our new place of employment so that we can bike ride.
How do you travel (transit, car, etc)? Are your travel decisions dictated by choice or necessity? Please explain.
For the last two years I traveled to work by transit. Now that I have changed jobs and locations I have purchased a car and am driving to work until I relocate.
Tell us about a Tiny Choice youâve made in your life.
We have eliminated the use of paper towels in our kitchen. Our friends and family tend to make fun of us, but we think itâs a great change and never really miss them.
What is the one environmental dilemma you personally struggle the most with?
Remembering to take bags to the grocery store.
What is one Tiny Choice you can make in that direction?
At the beginning of the week I can put my reusable bags in the trunk of the car.
What is the one environmental Tiny Choice you make that people question (in either a positive educational or a negative hassle way) you the most about?
Iâm from a much less progressive area then I live in now, so whenever my family or friends come to visit I get a whole slew of questions about why we do what we do. I think when they visit itâs mainly questions about recycling like what you can and canât recycle and what goes where. They usually hassle us about the paper towels too.
What is the one environmental Tiny Choice you would like every single person to adopt?
This isnât really a tiny choice, but I would like to see more people shop locally and buy items with less processing/packaging. I think this would make a huge difference, not only environmentally, but it will also help the local economy.
Do you feel like you make sacrifices for environmentalism? Please explain.
Yes, but I think that itâs not just for environmentalism, I think that itâs for overall well being of my life in general. Most of the things I donât really consider sacrifices, except maybe financially. I feel spiritually better about where my money is going when I spend responsibly.
Are you generally: optimistic, pessimistic, neutral about environmentalism and the future?
It depends on the day. Since my area is pretty progressive, itâs easy to be optimistic. Then I read something about how global warming is a hoax or something like that I feel like people just donât get it or that they donât care.
